LED UPDATE!

I know that it’s been some time since new content has been added to this website.  I also appreciate all of you that have visited even though I have not been updating.  Since so much time has gone by, I have been able to not only use LED fixtures on some of my aquariums, I have also been able to speak with many more industry leaders regarding LED lighting.

Improvements in the diodes as well as the electronics that enable them to emit light have vastly changed the consistency of the light being transmitted.  The spectrums are now more consistent than ever and the real proof is in the quality of corals, anemones and macro algae.  I am happy to say that much of the concerns that I had in the infant stages of aquarium LED lighting have not only been addressed, they seemed to have been eliminated in many instances.  Many units are producing the necessary light to promote coral growth as well as anemone division.

Not to be a Debby Downer, but “let the buyer beware” is still appropriate when purchasing LED fixtures.  Some companies are using extremely cheap parts to build their units and they are not lasting as long as they should.  I have said all along that this site is not to necessarily endorse a product, but to inform, to the best of my ability.  It is with this in mind that I still have some reservations, as any good consumer should, that some times you get exactly what you pay for.  Cheap isn’t  better if you have to purchase it again in six months because of shoddy workmanship.

If you are looking for quality products, do your due diligence and research the available products in you price range.  I know that many of these fixtures are still extremely costly, but in the long run they may serve your needs much better than the less expensive alternatives.  Though some Chinese products may have quality parts, they are typically built poorly.  I hope this changes in the future, but it seems to be a running theme in this industry.

Thanks again for visiting the site. I am working on another site (news to follow when ready), but have decided that I should also put some attention to this site as well.  I look forward to adding more content in the near future.
